Some of the Best

Yep these are some of the best people/photographers I have had the pleasure of meeting/playing/partying/shooting with! Melbourne Film Is Not Dead Workshop which I reviewed here hosted by the fabulous Jonathan Canlas & some of my images here seriously did not disappoint. Didn’t manage to capture everyone (decided to shoot off some last frames of a roll - the tight portraits) but these certainly help keep the memories fresh. Mix of 35mm and MF. Would love to do this all again.

Film Is Not Dead - Melbourne

So I have done a post here shouting the praises of Jonathan Canlas and his Film Is Not Dead Workshop - which I attended in Melbourne January this year. Still have vivid fond memories - brilliant awesome amazing. So each day there was a photo session and here a select few of my favourites - digital can not touch film when it comes to skin tones. Most of these were shot my Contax 645 with Kodak Portra 400 while the B&W was on my Canon EOS3 with Kodak CN400.

Buy it and it will set you FREE - FIND Guide

So here is the magic I was referring to in yesterdays post about my Melbourne Film Is Not Dead Workshop. Jonathan Canlas has produced this amazing 96 page guide which is called A Digital Photographer’s Guide to Shooting Film. Seriously covers everything to get you started - cameras, film stock, scanning and even suppliers, where to get the good deals all sorts of good stuff. Some delish images of his (with techie info) to make you swoon as well.

So at the moment it is only $89 (US) until Feb 23rd then the normal price will be $149 (US) which is still a steal. Those who know Jonathan Canlas sing his praises and of course I have no hesitation giving a shout out for him and the Guide - though he has created an affiliate program which helps spread the word and accordingly gives a little back to those who do. So if you want to jump or even step cautiously this guide will show you the way. Just do it! Click the banner below and receive your PDF instant download and get shooting some film.

FIND Guide

Jonathan Canlas - Film Is Not Dead (FIND) Melbourne

If you follow Jonathan Canlas anywhere on the net and he is everywhere - just google him - you get a pretty good idea about the man and what he represents. So when I attended his Australian FIND (Film Is Not Dead) Workshop in Melbourne it was amazing and refreshing how much he actually WAS what I was expecting. The internet can help people create a persona they are not or what they want others to believe they are - not with Jonathan Canlas. All have said it before - as he does himself - he is an open book, you can ask him anything. More importantly he is not selling anything - he is sharing his knowledge and the joy and pure pleasure of shooting FILM.

I learnt and studied with film and now have come full circle and FIND came at the perfect time to re-establish my confidence shooting film again - as good as what digital is there are so many negatives (for me personally). After 3 days Jon totally endeared himself to everyone by being genuine, 100% real and knowing his stuff (and has the best giggle - he loves to laugh). He implores you to shoot film and wants you to succeed. And it doesn’t end when the workshop is over - the FIND community is incredible and growing. So many memories from just 3 days - 3 AMAZING DAYS with a truly inspired teacher (he educates), his hilarious side-kick Tavis (Tsauce to his fans) and fabulous fellow attendees. He would kill me for calling him a Legend (though I do think his work is divine) I refer more in terms of his approach, passion and committed path to inspire and educate people about film as well as going back to the basics - technical stuff like exposures, seeing the light, knowing how to use your camera on manual. Seriously one of the most positive & - time will tell - pivotal moments for my business. Definitely my best investment to date both financially and for the direction of my image making. If you get a chance to attend one of his workshops - DO IT. If you are interested in everything you need to know to shoot film come back tomorrow - there is some FIND magic about to happen care of Mr Canlas.

Thanks Jon - seriously one-of-a-kind in the best possible way - there is no-one like you!!!!!!!

On a personal note Jon connects with people on another level as well - because of his overt love and adoration of his family - his family is paramount - for me this is testament to a great human being.

Film Is Not Dead Melbourne - Last drinks

Jonathan Canlas brought his ever so popular workshop FILM IS NOT DEAD down here to Australia and it was my absolute privilege to attend. Will cover the workshop down the track though here are a collection of Polaroids from our last night in Melbourne. No digital camera for me this trip except my iphone - have included two which caught my eye. First is the sublimely talented Jonas and the other is gorgeously talented Fiona -  who is sitting on a hospital bed which was part of the eery decor of the bar.

The Nikon AIPP Event - Twin Waters Resort

Just had a fabulous 3 days at The Nikon AIPP Event - held locally at Twin Waters Resort. The Australian Institute of Professional Photography (AIPP) lured some of the best professional photography presenters from Australia as well as overseas for seminars and workshops.  Jim Fiscus, Ian Golding, Vanessa Hall, Mark Toia, Marcus Bell, Peter Eastway, Richard Anderson, Rocco Ancora, Jerry Ghionis & Kelly Munce are just some which I attended. Always good to invest in my business - networking with other photographers from all over Australia was another bonus. Back to work proper……………….

Lumina Motion Pictures - Showcase Evening

I had the absolute pleasure of attending Lumina Motion Pictures Showcase Evening last night. Besides the fact Shane & Richelle are one of the nicest couples you can meet their work is amazing. They are redefining the way couples capture their wedding day on film - it is all about ‘Telling the Story’ with stunning cinematic images. It is not just hype they do actually deliver something unique and out of the ordinary - jump over to their site and have a look.

Melbourne & Marcus ………..

WOW it is amazing to think half of 2010 is behind us. Now in the middle of some downtime from weddings as it is winter - though perfect time to re-charge and look forward to the wonderful clients still to come. June saw me head down to Melbourne for PMA - annual photography tradeshow & convention. A few iphone beauties - that’s what professional photographers use of course……… Tanya definitely looked more ‘Melbourne’ than I - had a brilliant time.

Last week Karen & I went for some inspiration from Marcus Bell - one day business seminar. He covered a range of topics from technical, equipment, photoshop, products, pricing and the impact of video to name a few. His photography is world class and he is very business savvy.

A few more weddings to post & I will be up to date.

The Knot - Best Wedding Photographers

Wow what a lovely surprise - I have been chosen in The Knot Top 10 Wedding Photographers in Australia - per state. Very humbling but thought I would share. The Knot has all you need to plan your big day as well as tons of inspiration for today’s Bride.

Jodi McDonald Couples Featured - Sunshine Coast Wedding Photographer

A couple of my 2009 couples have been featured in two current Bridal Magazines. Mina & Cameron were married at Rainbow Beach - I used their images for a two-page advert in Sunshine Coast Brides. Kelly & Nico were married at Noosa Beach with their reception at The Planatation in Cooroy - a four page spread in Sunshine Coast Brides - real wedding story. And Nadine & Cameron were married last February at Twin Waters Golf Club - another real wedding story featured in Queensland Brides. Both publications available in newsagents now. All three of these weddings have a gallery on my Sunshine Coast Wedding Photography Website if you would like to see more of each. * No pressure for Mina & Cameron - Kelly & Nico recently had a baby girl and Nadine & Cameron are about to become parents…………. Congrats to all my past couples & 2010 promises to be more of the same.
